However, Sheffield is home to eight Nobel laureates, six of whom are alumni or former long-term employees of the institution. They have helped to enhance penicillin, find the citric acid cycle, discover fullerene, investigate high-speed chemical processes, uncover introns in eukaryotic DNA, and construct molecular machines.
